The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has stated that it will support Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming parliamentary vote.
Sagara Kariyawasam, the party’s general secretary, declared the decision.
Today, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Acting President of Sri Lanka until next week’s parliamentary election of a new President.
Tomorrow (16) the Parliament will convene to begin the process of electing a new President.
A few days later, nominations for the presidency are anticipated to be accepted, and a new president is expected to be elected by the 20th of July.
Dullas Alahapperuma of the SLPP also announced today that he will run for the presidency when Parliament calls for nominations the following week.
