Today, Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced the formation of a committee comprised of the Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-forces Commanders, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to manage the current situation in Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, stated that the committee has been tasked with ensuring the security and safety of the citizens during the ongoing protests.

The emergency rule and curfew will be implemented to thwart these efforts and restore normalcy to the country, he added.

In addition, the Prime Minister stated that he has received information indicating that a group of anti-government protesters plotted to storm the Prime Minister’s Office and the homes of the Navy and Air Force Commanders today.

Antigovernment demonstrators surrounded the office of the Prime Minister in Colombo, calling for the resignations of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe due to Sri Lanka’s current economic crisis.
