Overseas Sri Lankans have launched a social media campaign to generate dollars for Sri Lanka through official banking channels.
The decision was made following yesterday’s resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The #SriLankaDollarChallenge has been launched in an effort to assist Sri Lanka in overcoming its current economic difficulties and foreign exchange crisis.
The challenge invites Sri Lankans living abroad to join and challenge other Sri Lankans living abroad.
According to the official #SriLankaDollarChallenge Facebook account, the following are the Dollar challenge instructions.
You can accept the challenge if you are a Sri Lankan living abroad. If you are a Sri Lankan living in Sri Lanka, you can challenge an out-of-country friend or relative to participate.
Please transfer any amount of dollars or other currencies through an Official Banking Channel to your Sri Lankan relatives.
According to the CBSL, the following are the official banking transfer channels: https://www.cbsl.gov.lk/remittance-partners.
Copy this post and use it to upload the receipt to Facebook.
Then, challenge another five to ten friends who reside abroad and share this post on your Facebook timeline with the #SriLankaDollarChallenge hashtag.
