Statement from former President Maithripala Sirisena. Maithripala Sirisena, the former president of Sri Lanka, has issued a warning that a gang bent on gaining power is slowly obliterating the nation.
He claimed in a statement that it is the military’s duty to defend both the Sri Lankan populace and those fighting for their rights.
He urged the commanders of the three military services and the Inspector General of Police to exercise restraint and refrain from using force in response to protests.
According to Maithripala Sirisena, neither the President nor the Acting President have any authority, hence one should use caution before following their instructions.
He further urged the populace to see these pieces of governmental property as their own and to refrain from destroying them.
