Statement from the Government of Maldives. On 13 July 2022, a Sri Lanka Air Force aircraft carrying His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka and spouse, on a transit visit, landed at the Velana International Airport after receiving diplomatic clearance from the Government of the Maldives at the official request of the Government of Sri Lanka. On July 14, 2022, President Rajapaksa departed for Singapore.
