Two suspects were apprehended during a Special Task Force (STF) search in Kiribathgoda with a consignment of foreign cigarettes, 720 bottles of foreign wine, and 4,700 kg of turmeric, all valued at more than Rs. 10 million.
Yesterday, the STF said that they had arrested two individuals. They were moving 40,000 illegally imported cigarette sticks on July 6 in Kiribathgoda.
After questioning the suspects, who are from Kotmale, the STF investigated a home in Wattala’s Hunupitiya neighborhood.
They discovered 720 unlawfully imported bottles of foreign whiskey as well as 4,700 kg of suspected smuggled turmeric.
The suspects and the goods seized were delivered to the Kiribathgoda Police.
