Suspect arrested for spreading hate speech on Social Media. On suspicion of spreading hate speech on Social Media against the Police and Sri Lanka Army, a suspect was placed on custody.
The suspect is charged with using Facebook to spread hate speech against the Police and Army.
The defendant will be kept in custody until August 8th, 2022, per a ruling from the Galle Magistrate’s Court today.
The suspect, who had declared hatred for the Police and Army and support for the Galle Face protest movement, has been identified as a Galle Fort local.
The individual was detained by the Criminal Investigations Department on suspicion of inciting violence by using hate speech against the Army and Police during the most recent protests.
The CID objected to the suspect being granted bail when the matter was discussed today to assess the suspect’s bail application.
