Tension has been reported at Galle, Matara, and Kandy railway stations due to overcrowding, with angry commuters demanding that station masters operate trains despite the cancellation order.
The respective railway station masters stated that the situation was gradually spiraling out of control.
Commuters were pleading with them to allow the trains to proceed to Colombo.
According to the Sri Lanka Station Masters’ Union, while the trains have not yet started on time, several trains are already on their way to Colombo Fort.
