The Colombo Commercial High Court has thrown out the case involving an Aeroflot aircraft.

Today, when the case was heard by the Colombo Commercial High Court, it was dismissed with costs.

On June 4, 2022, the Russian airline Aeroflot was detained at the Katunayake Airport due to a private legal dispute.

Following an injunction order issued by the Colombo Commercial High Court, the aircraft was detained.

The following day, arrangements were made for the Aeroflot flight to depart for Moscow on June 6.

After measures were taken with the involvement of the Prime Minister and the Justice Minister, the flight was allowed to depart.

Sri Lanka’s relations with Russia immediately deteriorated after the flight was detained.

Following investigations, then-Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse ordered the Colombo Commercial High Court’s Fiscal Officer to be interdicted.

The Fiscal Officer was accused of abusing his authority in relation to the injunction issued against the airline.
