The president is to blame for attacks on protesters, Sumanthiran.

M.A. Sumanthiran, a TNA member of parliament, says that the executive president Ranil Wickremesinghe should take full responsibility for the raid at Galle Face and the attack on the protesters.

Ranil Wickremesinghe is President today because of these protesters and for no other reason, the TNA MP said.

The MP went on to say that the President has condemned without any reservations the attack on the peaceful protest, which was recognized around the world for being peaceful.

MP Sumanthiran also said that the President had said similar things during the last two attacks. He also said that the then-MP had strongly condemned the attack on May 9 through the official UNP account.

“He even said, ‘If you support the government, I will pull all my support,'” the MP said.

The TNA parliamentarian said that Wickremesinghe, who was Prime Minister at the time, also said that the Galle Face protest must not be touched. However, he has shown his true colors in just 24 hours.

Even by what he said himself on May 9, the MP said, he has made it impossible for us to support him.

The MP pointed out that at least on May 9, the attack happened in broad daylight and that the people were attacked early in the morning. “But this is much worse because the state forces attacked them in the dark. So Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is in charge of running the country, must take full responsibility for this,” he said.
