A group of four suspects, including a woman, were arrested yesterday in connection with the theft of more than Rs. 31.5 million in jewelry from a shop in Norwood town.

Police had been conducting investigations into the December 2009 robbery in order to identify the suspects. During the investigation, police discovered the stolen jewelry buried in the home garden of one of the suspects in Norwood’s Venture Estate.

During questioning, they provided information that led to the arrest of a 50-year-old shop employee who had planned the robbery. Yesterday, the suspects were scheduled to appear before Hatton magistrate.

SSP Vijitha Alwis has directed Norwood Police and the Hatton Division Crime Investigation Unit to conduct additional investigations.
