The National Trade Union Coordination Centre has announced that it will launch a series of protests demanding the resignations of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on July 18.
Today, the Convenor of the Centre, Wasantha Samarasinghe, announced to the media that the protest will begin in front of the Fort train station on Monday (18).
He stated that the National Trade Union Coordination Centre, which represents over one thousand trade unions in the public and private sectors, will participate in the demonstration alongside the general public.
After President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country, Wasantha Samarasinghe accused Ranil Wickremesinghe of attempting to usurp his position.
He added that the National Trade Union Coordination Centre will disregard the curfew imposed by the acting president in the Colombo district and continue to operate.
The Convenor of the National Trade Union Coordination Centre stated that they will present a proposal on Sunday (17) regarding the removal of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe from their portfolios and the creation of national stability.
