UK party leader requests an international arrest order for Gotabaya

Published:

Ed Davey, the leader of the British Liberal Democrats, has asked the government of the United Kingdom (UK) to collaborate with its allies abroad to issue a warrant for the arrest of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The plea was made during yesterday’s urgent debate on Sri Lanka’s situation in the British Parliament.

Ed Davey attributed the “corruption of the Rajapaksa government” to the “terrible appalling situation for the people of Sri Lanka.”

With the proviso that such support should include “a political package which includes an international arrest warrant for President Rajapaksa and his associates,” he urged for an economic package with the IMF.
