Update on the shooting incident at Katubedda. According to the Mount Lavinia Crime Investigation Division, the man who hid the three-wheeler and the gunman who used it to flee the site of the Kadubedda shooting event, which claimed two lives, have both been arrested in Waskaduwa.

Nilantha Kumara Silva, alias Ukkuwa, a 41-year-old drug dealer and member of an organized crime group who lived in Panadura’s Pinwatta neighborhood, and Mohammad Saud Mohammad Samsan, a 31-year-old inhabitant of Kaludewala, were shot and killed on June 29.

While the minivan they were riding in was parked on the Katubedda-Piliyandala road and they were both inside, two masked men riding a motorcycle opened fire on them with a T-56 rifle before fleeing.

The inquiry into the associated killings showed that the gunmen had escaped from the scene of the crime on a motorcycle before moving on to a three-wheeler close to Egoda Uyana in Moratuwa. While traveling towards the Matugama region, the three-wheeler was also seen on a CCTV camera.

According to the police, the suspect was apprehended as a result of a CCTV investigation.

Later, the suspect’s three-wheeler was discovered by the police stashed at his friend’s Waskaduwa home.

The suspect is due to appear in court at Mount Lavinia Magistrate.
