Wikileaks releases a 2007 document about Ranil Wickremesinghe

Wikileaks has released a document about a conversation between the newly elected President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and the Japanese government in 2007.

The document came out a few hours after Ranil Wickremesinghe was chosen as the 8th Executive President of Sri Lanka in a secret ballot in Parliament.

According to the document shared by Wikileaks, Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was the leader of the opposition in 2007, asked Japan to stop giving Sri Lanka money.

The document also shows that Japan replied that the Sri Lankan people shouldn’t be punished “for acts and omissions by their leaders.”
