On Wednesday, March 13, the Court of Appeal issued an order for the immediate arrest of State Minister Sanath Nishantha on suspicion of contempt of court and his presence in court.

The MP for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has been ordered to be detained and brought before a judge by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

State Minister Sanath Nishantha received a summons from the Court of Appeal on September 29 ordering him to appear in court today(13).

However, because the State Minister did not show up for court today, the Court of Appeal ordered the IGP to arrest him immediately.

Several parties accused Sanath Nishantha of contempt of court in August.
