After the deadly accident in Kollupitiya, the Merc driver fled to Dubai

Mohammad Ryzul Rizzaq, a 24-year-old businessman who was driving a Mercedes and was returning from a nightclub when he was involved in a deadly accident in Kollupitiya on Saturday early, had departed for Dubai hours before the accident, according to police.

The suspect allegedly left for Dubai at around 9.55 on Saturday morning, several hours after the deadly collision, according to police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa.

According to investigations, the suspect is the owner of three Mercedes that are registered in Sri Lanka and were purchased with money from Dubai. The suspect’s mother provided a statement to the police as well.

A Mercedes luxury car returning from a nightclub collided with a three-wheeler in Kollupitiya, killing a 58-year-old driver from Kahathuduwa.

After the collision, the car’s driver sped away. According to the police, there were three women and one other guy in the car at the time of the collision. Two of the women, who were ages 29 and 31, were also hurt and taken to the Colombo National Hospital.

The other two occupants in the automobile have provided statements to the Kollupitiya police.

The suspected driver reportedly lived at two different residences, one in Dehiwala and the other in Wellampitiya. He was, however, lodging in a lavish room at a prestigious Colombo hotel.

The three women who were in the car at the time of the accident met the suspect at the nightclub, according to the police, where he was partying from Friday night until around five o’clock on Saturday.

According to SSP Thalduwa, police asked INTERPOL for help in returning the suspect.

Kollupitiya Police are conducting an investigation.
