A 41-year-old guy was detained after trying to rob two people in a car yesterday near Duplication Road in Bambalapitiya of nearly Rs. 2.7 million in cash.
The police said that two individuals on motorcycles attempted to stop a car on Duplication Road last afternoon and attempt to check the vehicle while posing as members of the Police Special Task Force.
The suspects fled after stealing the Rs. 2.7 million in cash that belonged to the car’s owner and his passenger during the inspection.
One suspect and his motorcycle were found on De Fonseka Road in Bambalapitiya by the car’s owner and passenger, who then turned them over to the local police station.
A 41-year-old Wellawatte resident has been named as the arrested suspect.
The suspect will appear before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court today, according to the police.
The Bambalapitiya Police have started their inquiries in order to apprehend the other suspect who was engaged in the heist.
