China calls for joint efforts to ease Sri Lanka’s debt burden

China aspires to collaborate with relevant nations and international financial organizations to assist Sri Lanka in overcoming its current challenges.

When asked about media reports that an IMF team would visit China this week to discuss faster debt restructuring progress for nations like Sri Lanka, which is vying for an aid package from the IMF, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, made the comments.

According to Mao, China has a long history of reliable economic and financial collaboration with the IMF and other international organizations.

Mao stated that China places a high value on Sri Lanka’s difficulties and challenges in relation to the country’s debt problem.

She stated, “We support the financial institutions in finding solutions with Sri Lanka to adequately resolve the situation.

Additionally, she added, we hope relevant nations and international financial organizations will cooperate with China and continue to play a positive role in aiding Sri Lanka in overcoming its current challenges, reducing its debt, and achieving sustainable development.
