The Department of Local Government of the Eastern Province announced that all slaughterhouses and meat markets must close for one week starting today.

The Department announced in a statement that as a result, the meat markets and slaughterhouses will be closed from December 12 through December 18, 2022.

However, according to the Eastern Province’s Department of Local Government, chicken stores in that region are exempt from this closure.

Anuradha Yahampath, the governor of the Eastern Province, has issued the order in this regard.

Due to the recent bad weather, it was reported that several cows and goats perished in the North and Eastern Provinces.

There were many rumors that there were persons in the Eastern Province trying to sell the dead goats and livestock for human use.

As a result, the Eastern Province’s Department of Local Government claimed that precautions have been made to thwart such attempts.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Northern and Eastern Provinces’ unfavorable weather conditions have caused approximately 1600 animal deaths.

As of today at noon, the ministry announced that 1660 animals, including cows and goats, had perished.
