Six Peradeniya University students were detained Friday night in connection with the assault on Prof. Athula Senaratne, a former vice chancellor of the university, and his son.
According to the police, the students were detained after turning themselves in to the Peradeniya Police.
The suspect college students, who range in age from 23 to 25, are locals of Nittambuwa, Sadalangala, Girithale, Matale, Henegamuwa, and Galagamwatta.
Police claimed they have identified six more pupils wanted over the incident and investigations are underway to apprehend them.
