The former vice chancellor of Peradeniya University, Prof. Athula Senaratne, and his son were allegedly assaulted lately, and the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations has asked the police to apprehend the suspects.

On Saturday, a group of about 300 students allegedly assaulted the former Vice Chancellor and his son and attempted to forcibly enter their home.

An disagreement with the son of the former vice chancellor had turned physical, leading to the attack.

Prof. Athula Senaratne, a former vice chancellor of Peradeniya University, and his son are being treated at the Peradeniya Hospital for their wounds.

The incident, according to the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations, was caught on the CCTV camera that was put in place at the former Vice Chancellor’s official residence.

The Federation additionally encouraged the Police to apprehend the attack’s perpetrators by identifying them via CCTV footage.

Ten of the students involved in the incident have currently been recognized by the Police, according to Ada Derana.

According to reports, the police are moving to apprehend the group of students who have already been named.

The administration of Peradeniya University has also opened an investigation into the incident.

According to Prof. Terrence Madhujith, the university’s deputy vice chancellor, the academic pursuits of the students who were detained in connection with the assault event would be temporarily stopped.
