A new strain of covid virus has been identified, says Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Head of the Department of Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Accordingly, it has been named as BA5 and no new strains of the virus have been identified in the country so far, the doctor said.
The new virus has been reported in 63 countries and is spreading rapidly.
