Letter on bomb threat: Anura questions motive

Published:

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake today questioned a letter sent by the IGP to the Defense Secretary warning of a possible bomb attack on the 5th or 6th of July in the North, East, or South.

During a special media briefing, MP Dissanayake stated that the bomb attack is reportedly planned to target the Black Tigers commemoration events on the aforementioned two dates, with the involvement of international spy agencies.

Reading excerpts from a document addressed to the Defence Secretary, MP Dissanayake stated that the document also warns officials and members of the public affiliated with international organizations in the North and East not to participate in any events during this period.

He demanded that the government reveal how and where the information was obtained, as well as the possibility of such an attack.

MP Dissanayake went on to say that there is also suspicion that such news is being spread in order to suppress anti-government protests and sentiments that are currently taking place across the country.
